We’ve featured a number of abandoned trams and trolley graveyards at Urban Ghosts to date, not to mention these disused streetcar stations long forgotten by those who pass by them daily. The above photograph by Flickr user Michael Roell, aptly tagged “Sleeping Tramways”, captures a collection of withdrawn vehicle in a beautifully symmetrical composition.
Standing quietly on rusting light rail track, the abandoned electric tramcars look refreshingly intact and haven’t been heavily vandalised. As a result, they may have been retired from service quite recently. Their light blue and cream bodies still bear the numbers they wore while in service on urban streets, though it seems unlikely that they’ll be pressed back into service as newer, more efficient models come on stream.
