In the words of the excellent Atlas Obscura: “Rusty and overgrown with vines and grass, they are lined up neatly on the right side of the road. Anyone who knows their Fords will notice that they’re even lined up in chronological order, dating from the early 1900’s to the mid-70’s. The trucks are [an] unusual worse-for-wear site on the scenic byway, but their apocalyptic charm attracts more photographers than any of the natural scenery. Where did they come from?”

The trucks are the property of Pat Harvey, and the collection has become a well-known landmark at the side of Highway 319 near Medart, Florida. After serving their working lives on the Harvey family farm, each one was gradually turned into a source of spare parts by Pat’s father in a bid to keep other farm machinery running.

Then one day Pat decided to line them all up in a row to see what they looked like. The result, as these images reveal, is a scene that has drawn photographers from across the state of Florida and beyond to document their elegantly rusted appearance. But it seems there’s more to Pat Harvey’s abandoned truck graveyard than just the rusting vehicles themselves.

Photographer Katy Warner writes: “We passed by a field of abandoned old cars and trucks on Hwy 319 just south of Crawfordville (about 20 miles south of Tallahassee). We made a u-turn and went back to check it out… spent almost an hour taking pictures! We even stumbled upon a geocache!”
